Hello,

I began teaching myself web design to display my illustration portfolio online, of which this site is the latest iteration. I found I like putting things together using code, and I've been designing, developing, and/or maintaining web sites on a freelance basis for about six years. I prefer hand-coding HTML and external CSS, but have had experience building sites in both Dreamweaver and Flash. I am familiar with Javascript, PHP, and MySQL, and am currently learning CMS development in Drupal and Wordpress, along with iOS mobile development. To the best of my ability I adhere to current standards and best practices of design and development.

The following are select sites I've designed and/or maintain.

Client:
Macchiarini Creative Design

Design and layout, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Wordpress integration

Daniel Macchiarini of Macchiarini Creative Design in San Francisco needed an updated online catalog that would present his art works with the beauty and clarity worthy of their craftsmanship and the Macchiarini legacy. He asked for features such as close-ups, multiple views of pieces, and videos, packaged in a layout that comprised his vast work but was easy to navigate, and complemented the Macchiarini image.

Dan also needed a way to post news items and upload images of new work immediately for his customers to see, so I set up a Wordpress blog for his home page as a solution. I kept the styling consistent on the blog by modifying the template CSS code, adding a customized header with the Macchiarini logo, and including a navigation strip with links that point back to the web site.

Client:
Diane Wesley Smith for Supervisor D10 Campaign

Design and layout, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL

Diane Wesley Smith is an entrepreneur and tireless advocate for her San Francisco community of Bay View/Hunter's Point, and the city as a whole. When she decided to run for District 10 Supervisor, she came to me for a web site that would be the face of her campaign headquarters. She needed to offer news and info about Diane the candidate, her political platform, endorsements, and to provide a way to contact and volunteer for the campaign.

One of the enjoyable challenges in this project was to create an HTML version of Diane's "Issues" political platform that closely mimicked the design of the pamphlet that was already circulating. Another was setting up a MySQL database and form to gather volunteer submissions.

Client:
Catherine Reed, Visual Artist

Complete recode, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript

"Bouteloua" is the nickname for Catherine Reed, a San Francisco-based artist who combines her interest in science and nature with knitting and sewing to create some of the coolest fabric art you'll ever see.

When I met Catherine, she was looking for someone to take over the maintenance of her existing portfolio site. She is a prolific artist and had a lot of new work she wanted to have added. However, the code for the site was outdated and not very flexible for adding new content. Knowing that Catherine liked the site's design as it was, I offered to recode the entire site from the ground up while preserving its appearance (with minor enhancements).
