The Sandwich Place Mural
24 x 96 in., acrylic on panel

Commissioned by The Sandwich Place, San Francisco, CA.
The Client had a vision for a mural to occupy the only bit of narrow wall space just inside his San Francisco Mission District sandwich shop. Being an independent business owner with long ties to the neighborhood and his customers, he asked that this work include three primary elements: Sandwich Place employees, certain regular customers, and a few known landmarks of the neighborhood; the guiding title to be "Sandwiches and Friends."

This is a work that has evolved since it was "finished" in 2002. In 2007 the Client asked me to add five new faces to the composition, which was an interesting challenge since my style had grown in those five years and the composition was already a bit crowded. With a little repositioning of certain elements I was able to allow for some extra room in areas that made sense and the overall integration came out relatively seamless.
